Solar system use free heat from the sun to warm domestic hot water. A boiler or immersion heater can then be used to make the water hotter or provide hot water when the solar engery is not available
The benifits of Solar Hot Water:
- Hot water throughout the year: The system works all year round however you will need to increase the temperature using an alternative heat source during winter months (I.e boiler/immersion heater)
- Cut your bills: Sunlight is FREE! Therefore once you have paid for the initial installation your hot water costs will be dramatically reduced
- Cut your Carbon Footprint: Solar Hotwater is a green, renewable heating system and can reduce your carbon dioxide emmissions
- Recieve income: For a selected time you may be eligable for the RHI scheme where you will be paid to have Solar in your property (Amounts vairy depending on you property and its occupants)
How do Solar Systems Work?
Solar water heating systems use solar panels, called collectors, fitted to your roof. These collect heat fromt he sun and use it to heat up water which is stored in a hot water cylinder. A boiler or immersion heater can be used as a back up to heat the water further to reach the temperature you want.
There are two types of Solar 'Collectors':
Evactuated Tubes - Mounted on top of roofing material (Pictured above)
Flat Panel - Mouted on top of roofing material or can be Integrated into the roof structure
Below is a typical Solar Panel System combined with a twin coil cylinder.
